Qatar
covers an area of 11,437 Sq Km lying south-east
of Bahrain and north-west of the United Arab
Emirates. Doha is the capital of Qatar and the
major city. The present population of Qatar is
estimated at 815000. Oil and gas account for
more than 55% of GDP roughly 85% of export
earnings and 70% of government revenues. Qatar’s
proven gas reserve exceeds 5% of the world total
and is the third largest in the world. Since the
year 2000, the country has consistently posted
trade surpluses largely because of high oil
prices and increased natural gas exports. The
economy is expected to grow at a faster rate as
liquefied natural gas exports increase. Qatar is
on target to become the world’s biggest LNG
exporter by 2010. Such solid economic indicators
have formed a strong foundation for real estate
and industrial growth. The services sector is
tracking behind but coming along well in
line.
